Computer integrated design: its benefits and application
A computer-integrated design methodology based around a robust finite element model has been developed to assist in the design of commercial vehicle drum brakes. The methodology complements formalised design procedures by enabling more data to be manipulated more quickly and so by improves design effectiveness. The resources required to establish brake behaviour by both experimental testing and analytical prediction are compared and the latter is shown to have much lower resource requirements.
