Models of fracture process zone in concrete, rock, and ceramics
The fracture process zone is a region ahead of a stress-free crack, in which two different mechanisms, micro-cracking and bridging, play important roles. To apply fracture mechanics to concrete, rock, and ceramics, an analytical model of fracture process zone is necessary. A number of models have been proposed. In this paper, the macrocrack-microcrack interaction model and Dugdale-type model are investigated. Their features and related aspects such as microcracking localization and the source of the size effect are discussed.
