A gantry-type NC robot with twin arc torches
This paper describes a gantry-type NC robot with twin arc torches, applied to large structures in the bridge- and ship-building industries. In these industries, conventional arc welding robots are ineffective in actual production lines, because direct-teaching robots are unsuitable for large work. High-quality welding, high productivity, and unmanned operation were achieved by this new robot with a newly developed CAD system for off-line teaching, NC system, various sensors, end-finish welding method and so on.
