Development of journal bearings for lift mechanism in wheel loaders; SRV-testing with combinations of bearing materials and lubricating greases
This work, part of it employed a SRV tribotester, had one objective: to form a decision to extend lubrication interval. The structure and the function of the system 'Journal Bearing' were analysed and led to the specification for SRV-testing. In order to come to conclusions it was then useful to accelerate the degradation processes within lubricants and to study the bearing ability ad lifetime of combinations of bearing materials and lubricants. Testing mode was to increase load until film-break and galling as well as 2 hrs running with constant load. The SRV-testing reproduced known typical behaviour of grease-lubricated steel-steel and bronze-steel combinations. Wear processes of test pieces and overall results were compared with wear pattern of a bearing taken from a loader employed 1000 hrs in rock-loading.
