Fiberglass and graphite cables for bridge decks
The influence of concrete with and without sodium chloride solution on the flexural strength of pretensioned beams with steel and fiberglass was studied in this project. A new anchorage system developed for advanced composite cables was refined and tested for their reliability in this project. The transfer length, development length, and failure modes of the prestressed beams with steel, fiberglass (S2), and graphite cable were studied and the tests in progress are reported. The preliminary test data indicate very encouraging results for the use of these cables and the anchorage system for pretensioned beams and bridge decks.
