Operation result of large-scale sewage sludge melting plant
Kobe Steel has developed a technique for melting sewage sludge cake using a swirling-flow melting system after carbonizing. It delivered a large-scale 120 t-cake/d plant in 1996. In that plant the fuel consumption rate is 76 l/t-cake and the power consumption rate is 110 kWh/t-cake, which is a decrease of 26 % when compared to the 40 t-cake/d plant delivered in 1990. The generated slag can be used as construction materials because heavy metals in the slag leachate meets soil contamination standard.
