One of the biggest problems for the wood coatings manufacturer has been the necessity to develop new, more environmentally acceptable coatings. There are three options open to the end-user: Arrestment of VOC emissions. The use of compliant coatings. The mass reduction of VOC emissions. It was evident from the beginning that the legislation demands product changes. Coatings development is only part of the story. It really is the development of a system comprising the coating, the manufacturing process, and the application technique. Most wood coaters are opting for the mass reduction of VOC route to legislative compliancy. This requires a far closer relationship between the coatings supplier and end-user.
