System enabling gardens without soil
Toyo Exterior Co., Ltd., Tokyo, has developed a gardening stage that is a system that utilizes roof greening technology and enables gardens to be enjoyed even without soil. The gardening stage utilizes an artificial lightweight soil system, a water sprinkling system, and a frame system. The artificial lightweight soil system consists of a nature-conditioned soil featuring basic characteristics on a high level, such as good water seepage, resistance to solidification, and excellent water retention and air permeability, a nature-conditioned compost that activates plant growth, a water retention and discharge panel that maintains a state of water retention, discharge and air permeation optimum for plants, a mulching material that covers the soil surface, and a root prevention sheet that prevents plant roots from infiltrating into waterproofing layers. The water sprinkling system enables an appropriate volume of water to be fed uniformly to space over a wide area as well as small-area planters without much labor. Five types of frame systems are available to meet the needs of various housing spaces such as garages, balconies, decks, verandas, roofs and entrances.
