Evaluation of creep-fatigue life of 316FR cylinder subjected to cyclic movement of axial temperature distribution
A series of creep-fatigue tests of 316FR hollow cylinders with two longitudinal weldments was conducted under the condition of cyclic movement of axial temperature distribution, which simulated the thermal loading near the free surface of coolant sodium in the main vessel of a FBR. The stress condition was almost uniaxial and tensile hold on the outer surface and almost equibiaxial and compressive hold on the inner surface. Creep-fatigue life was estimated by a time fraction rule and a ductility exhaustion method using the results of an inelastic analysis performed with the sophisticated plastic constitutive model developed by CRIEPI and the conventional creep constitutive equation generalized by a strain hardening rule. The accuracy of the life estimation based on the ductility exhaustion method was sufficient whereas the time fraction rule gave inaccurate estimation for crack initiation life at weld metal as well as base metal.
