Deformability parameters of shredded tire lightweight fills
The paper describes experimental findings pertaining to creep and anisotropy of shredded tire pieces used as lightweight fills in roads and embankments. One-year creep tests conducted on constrained and unconstrained samples have shown continuous growth of deformation with nearly constant rate of creep. Biaxial compression tests on large pieces, on the other hand, have revealed a significant difference in elastic moduli in the direction parallel and perpendicular to the direction of compaction and, hence, anisotropy. However, the difference in embankment settlement calculated from the isotropic and anisotropic elasticity theory are small.
