Numerical modelling of large deformations in soils: Continuum or granular medium
This paper presents the numerical modelling of the large deformations of soils when they interact with a solid tool. The main focus of this paper is to compare the deformations obtained when the soil is either treated as a continuum or as a granular medium. It is shown that the kinematic fields are very similar in the two cases even when schematic constitutive relations are used.
