Contaminated soil and ground water were found at a facility used for research and production of organic chemical products over the past 30 years. The contaminants of concern were chlorinated solvents of which trichloroethylene (TCE) was the material of greatest concern. The owners, ultimately wishing to sell the facility, embarked on a major program to remediate the area. This article describes an indoor air quality measurement program to determine levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to which future occupants of the building might be exposed and to determine if further remediation of sub-slab contamination would be required.
