Effects of geogrid in enhancing the resistance of asphalt concrete to reflection cracks
A study was conducted on the formation and development of reflection cracks in overlaid dense graded asphalt concrete. The geogrids used were made of glass fiber, with strengths of 100 kN/m and 200 kN/m. A series of testing for a beam reinforced with geogrid of 100 kN/m strength showed a fatigue life 1.5 to 2.5 times that of the non-reinforced beam and for a beam reinforced with 200 kN/m geogrid, the fatigue life was 5 to 9 times longer. In addition, the modified asphalt appeared to perform nearly as well as the 200 kN/m grid.
