Tomographic imaging of soil-tunnel interaction
Recent innovations in field testing devices, developments in signal processing and effective algorithms for inverse problem solving support the implementation of tomographic imaging as a reliable tool for site characterization. One important application is the imaging of the state of stress in a soil mass. This paper presents an experimental tomographic study of the state of stress around a tunnel. Inversions based on the parametric characterization of the stress field and pixel based solutions are attempted. Results show the potential of tomographic imaging in the characterization of geotechnical systems and in the monitoring of subsurface processes.
