A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This paper has focused on the need for a complete systems approach to fire safety in public buildings. Features of the system discussed include: building code compliance, prevention, suppression, detection, notification, and control of building components. It has pointed out that the weak link in a system approach to fire safety has been the control of highly flammable building contents, including furinishings of various type (floor coverings, curtains, drapes, mattresses, upholstered furniture, cushioning materials). Available fire test standards for furnishings have also been discussed. (TITUS).
