A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Over the last six years, different types of fPP flexible membrane liners have been used for a variety of different applications. This paper attempts to summarise these experiences for the benefit of the overall synthetic geomembrane industry and presents four installations where fPP geomembranes were exposed to very different environmental and containment conditions. These installations were, primary landfill liner, exposed and covered landfill caps and composite liner for solar evaporation reservoir. Results: fPP geomembranes of 1.0 mm thickness have been proven to meet a wide range of the containment need in the geosynthetic industry. In the case of exposed fPP installations, specific hindered amines (HALS) UV stabilizers must be used. With the proper stabilization package fPP shows no degradation after 3.0 million langleys of UV and 12,000 h in Xenon Arc exposures. fPP geomembranes show no degradation after 12 months continuous exposure to liquids at 85 deg C and having a PH value of 3.0.
