Corrosion behaviour of copper tube in hot water supply systems
This paper describes a comprehensive survey of the causes of corrosion problems in copper tubing used in hot water supply systems for buildings. In particular, the effects of HCO3(-)/SO4(2-) ratio, residual chlorine and SiO2 on pitting corrosion and possible countermeasures are examined in depth from a new viewpoint. Also, the characteristics of pitting corrosion resistant alloy ANPIC-TUBE and results of its field tests are reported. The small amounts of Al and Sn in this Cu-Al-Sn alloy suppress the rise in free potential of copper tube in hot water containing residual chlorine and improve in this way the pitting corrosion resistance.
