Numerical simulation of a cathodically protected semisubmersible platform using the PROCAT system
Boundary integral techniques appeared as the most attractive option in the application of numerical methods to solve cathodic protection (CP) problems in a more accurate and efficient way. The paper describes the simulation of the impressed current CP system of a semisubmersible platform using a specially developed boundary element computer system called PROCAT. PROCAT is developed to assist the design of cathodic protection systems for pipeline and offshore structures. A preliminary analysis of a semisubmersible platform shows underprotected areas developed by the deactivation of half the anodes and possible overprotection areas.
