Structural properties and strength of vacuum brazed aluminum honeycomb panel
Brazed aluminium honeycomb panels, which have been newly developed as light weight but rigid aluminium structural members, were tested under static load and cyclic load. On-plane and out-of-plane buckling tests were also carried out. It was found that the face plates mainly contributed to the rigidity and strength of the honeycomb panels under tensile or bending load, and that the honeycomb cores contributed to the shear rigidity and out-of-plane buckling strength. It was also found that the fatigue life (S-N curve) of honeycomb panels could be estimated from the fatigue life of face plates and the structural stress concentration factors in honeycomb panels.
