A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The paper presents the results of a study concerning the dynamic response of a road and railway steel bridge subjected to moving loads. The road and railway steel bridge, linking the Romanian and Bulgarian banks, consists of six continues girders, each of two spans (4x(2x80.0m) + 2x(2x160.0m)) and a simply supported central lifting girder (86.0 m). The structure of the bridge is a steel truss girder. The single railway is located at the lower side of the girder. The two lanes road is located approximately at the midheight of the girder, above the railway, being sustained by a reinforced concrete floorplate. This study is part of a bridges rehabilitation programme. The purpose of this study is to determine the variation of the dynamic amplification factor as a result of the variation of different factors governing the dynamic response of bridge structure. The study was focused on the continuous girder (2x160.0 m) situated near the Romanian bank. Out of the three supports, the central one is fixed; this is why computer modelling also considered the respective pier. The pier foundation is a reinforced concrete caisson of 18.0 m high. The elevation consists of two sections: the lower one is massive, concrete, stone plated and 9.4 m high, the upper one is a reinforced concrete frame of 10.3 m high.
