Standardised structural connections - The Australian scene
Standardized structural connections have been used by Australian designers, detailers and fabricators for nearly two decades. As joints constitute a significant part of the costs of structural steelwork, the use of standardised connections lends itself to more economical fabrication and construction. The popularity of this type of standardisation has been adopted by several other countries. This paper considers the current work on the update of the revised Australian Standardized Structural Connections. The use of such standardisation within Australian engineering documentation practice is also considered. Within Australia it is now nearing its twentieth year since inception. Work is now being undertaken on the fourth edition of 'Standardized Structural Connections' which will reflect recent changes to design standards and material availability as well as consider recent industry feedback on some details.
