Computer integrated manufacturing for constructional steel work - 'The CIMsteel vision'
Recognising the need for improving the competitiveness of the European Constructional Steelwork Industry led to the initialisation in 1987 of the CIMsteel Project. The Project vision was to transform this industry sector into a world class integrated manufacturing process leading to improved and economic steelwork structures. CIMsteel is a PanEuropean Project with nine participating countries: Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom and recently the Czech Republic. The collaborative venture includes more than 70 organisations representing a wide cross section of the industry, from designers, fabricators, software houses, research and trade organisations and academic institutions. Participating in the 50 million USD Project are small, medium and large organisations. In addition to the full collaborating organisations a number of Associate Collaborating organisations has joined the Project to contribute to specific activities. These organisations include Clients/Customers, IT and software vendors and academic institutions. The programme of work is due for completion 1997/98.
