The first International Conference on Steel in Green Building Construction was held March 17-21, 1998, in Orlando, USA. About 350 steelmakers and steel-building professionals from around the world gathered for the meeting, also called Sustainable Steel Conference. The topics were 1) steel usage for building environmentally friendly structures, steel marketing for residential construction, and 3) making advances important to steel in equipment and architecture. From the presented reports, it can be concluded that steel is more energy efficient than wood over a building's life cycle. It costs 1500 US dollars to equip and train a construction worker to use steel.
