Promotion of steel demand in construction sector and outlook for Indian steel industry
Construction forms the basic framework and starting point for any economic and industrial activity. The quantum of construction and thus quantum of steel consumption in construction depend very much on planning and implementation of projects/schemes. With moderate growth and development of economy and industry, the construction sector has also continued to remain at a modest level. With anticipated faster pace of development in the years to come, construction activities have to pick up involving greater degree of steel consumption in this sector. However, stupendous efforts will be necessary to achieve higher growth in this sector. With wider steel base available in the country, indigenous development of technology, vast reserve of technical man-power and long experience in handling variety of construction work coupled with liberalised policies and greater initiatives for larger investments, enhanced level of construction activity is very much within the realm of possibility. With special emphasis on rural development and greater inroads into overseas markets, the degree of construction activity and steel consumption is likely to register a quantum jump.
