Steel plate-concrete composite slab with a curved bottom plate
A new steel-plate-concrete composite slab for road bridges is presented in this paper. This new slab design has a curved bottom plate, which allows for the effective use of the membrane force during the concrete casting. In this report the basic behaviour of the slab in the concrete casting stage is analytically studied. The new slab design is demonstrated successfully in an 8 m slab span bridge with no rib on the bottom plate. Results of a 1/4 model casting test are also shown.
