Architecture means the living environment by man and for man. The development of the traditional vernacular architecture of the Han nationality in Lingnan implies the principles of adaptability. The contents of adaptability can be divided into three aspects: natural adaptability, social adaptability and human adaptability. The natural adaptability of the Han's vernacular architecture in Lingnan means buildings should adapt themselves to natural circumstances like climate and geographical conditions; its social adaptability means buildings should suit the needs of economy, politics, religions, customs and other social respects; and its human adaptability means buildings should be suited to human conditions such as emotion, temperament, aspiration and so on. All the developments and changes of the Han's vernacular architecture in Lingnan are based on the natural adaptability, pushed forward by the social adaptability and always to the human adaptability.
