Für die raumabschließenden Elemente der neuen Antarktisstation Neumayer III wurden – entsprechend den enormen Anforderungen aus dem antarktischen Klima – vorfabrizierte Sandwichelemente verwendet. Für den Raumabschluss der Labor‐ und Wohnbereiche kommen Sandwichelemente mit Mineralfaserkern und magnesitgebundenen glasfaserbewehrten Deckschalen zum Einsatz. Diese Technik wurde aus dem Schiffbau übertragen. Für die raumabschließenden Elemente der Außenhülle wurden Sandwichelemente mit Polyurethan‐Hartschaumkern und verzinkten, organisch beschichteten Stahldeckschalen verwendet. Für Teil bereiche wurde dabei eine neue Befestigungstechnik entwickelt.
The use of sandwich elements for the Antarctic research station.
For construction of the space‐enclosing elements for the new Antarctic research station Neumayer III, prefabricated sandwich elements were chosen as being suitable to withstand the harsh climatic conditions prevailing in the Antarctic. For laboratories and dwelling areas in the inner zone, sandwich elements with a mineral fibre core and glass‐fibre reinforced cover sheets made from magnesium solid solution were used. This technology was adopted from the shipbuilding industry. For the envelope of the structure, sandwich elements with a core of the shipbuilding industry. For the envelope of the structure, sandwich elements with a core of polyurethane rigid foam and steel cover sheets with an organic coating were used as spaceenclosing elements. For some areas, a new fastening technique was developed.
