Flood Management
Governance covers the management of technical, social, environmental, legal, and political responsibilities of different bodies, agencies, organisations, and individuals across the water cycle. The need for flood warning is essentially tied to a number of factors including the physical characteristics of the catchment. The potential for flood management measures to be exceeded is increasing, and the need for sustainable disaster risk reduction has never been more important. Flood Management systems comprise human, man‐made, and natural assets with associated procedures. The town of Skipton has experienced a number of flood events in recent history. The Skipton FAS consists of three separate elements: Eller beck flood storage reservoir, Waller hill beck flood storage reservoir, and town centre floodwalls. The social benefits of the scheme are the added safety and lowering of risk to life from flooding. There are a number of factors affecting future trends in flood management. These include: climate change, population and urbanisation, and digital.
