A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In response to the water shortages of the northeastern U.S., this article proposes the development of Long Island Sound into a coastal reservoir. The dual‐purpose objectives of the project are to provide a reliable and adequate water supply, and to provide two important bridge‐dam links between Long Island and the mainland. The article discusses the engineering considerations of the bridge‐dam links, the removal of salt water from the reservoir, the economics of the project, and arguments for and against the project.
