Fresh Concrete
This chapter examines the properties of freshly mixed concrete and summarizes the concrete curing regimes. The properties of fresh concrete affect the choices of handling, consolidation, and construction sequence. They may also affect the properties of the hardened concrete. Compaction plays an important role in ensuring the long‐term properties of the hardened concrete, as proper compaction is vital in removing air from concrete and in achieving a dense concrete structure. The rheology properties of concrete are primarily dependent on the quality of its constituents and their interactions. The mix design of concrete is the process of deciding what type of raw material and how much of each raw material needs to be selected to make concrete that can meet prerequisites such as strength, durability, and workability. Concretes are produced in two ways, one is manufactured in commercial concrete plant, the other is produced on construction site.
