Funding Large Rural Water Infrastructure Projects
This article provides information on how rural areas have addressed financial needs in developing adequate infrastructure, and gives case studies. The article discusses several federal funding programs for rural water and sewer systems, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) Clean Water State Revolving Fund, the USEPA's Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Water and Waste Disposal (WWD) Loan and Grant program. The article lists the major funding steps of rural water systems and shows how they coordinate with traditional engineering. Also, the article lists suggestions for early action items for communities that may be in need of a rural utility coalition or are thinking along those lines.
