Analysis Approaches for Soldier Pile Walls
This chapter presents analysis approaches for soldier pile walls. The approaches include determination of load models for soldier pile walls, use of pressure diagrams for supported soldier pile walls, and considering soil reactions and passive earth pressure for soldier pile walls with free earth supports. If the soldier piles of a soldier pile wall embed deeply enough in the ground below the excavation level, a fixed earth support can be adopted for determination of action effects. Generally, the soldier pile sections of supported walls are sufficiently flexible, so that a full fixed earth support forms in at least medium‐dense, cohesion‐less soils and at least stiff, cohesive soils. The chapter analyzes the equilibrium of horizontal forces for soldier pile walls.
