Pile bents and trestles
The horizontal head deformations of the pile bents or trestles (= interconnected pile bents) should always be determined as well and checked for compatibility with serviceability requirements. Pile bents/trestles with existing water and/or land‐side sheet pile walls often have to be strengthened by building an additional sheet pile wall driven in front of the old one and driven deeper in order to cope with greater water depths. Even with new pile trestles, a water‐side sheet pile wall can also be within the area of influence of pile loads. The chapter provides information applies primarily to determining the internal forces in non‐cohesive soil. It talks about two main types of plane pile bent for dealing with changes in ground level. Exposed pile bents above an underwater slope with land‐ and waterside steel pile walls should deal with a change in ground level.
