This article discusses the basic requirements for compliance to the Ground Water Rule beginning December 1, 2009. Topics covered include: sanitary surveys to review and evaluate eight elements including source, treatment, distribution system, finished water storage, pumps, pump facilities, and controls, monitoring, reporting, and data verification, system management and operations, and operator compliance with state requirements; source water monitoring; analytical methods for fecal indicators; corrective action requirements; compliance monitoring; and, compliance deadlines. A list of guidance manuals to assist groundwater systems and state primacy agencies in compliance with the Ground Water Rule is provided.
