A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This chapter offers a broad overview of the different aspects affecting the energy consumption of buildings. Beginning with an examination of recent developments in the legal requirements for a continuing reduction of energy consumption, an international comparison and benchmarking is carried out for the the main building sectors such as residential, office and administrative buildings. The most important influences on consumption are introduced, explaining the connection between climatic and urban effects.
