A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Of Crystal Balls and Iron Resolutions
Both resolutions and predictions for the water industry for the coming decade are made. Among the resolutions are: to have the industry unite in a aggressive effort to exercise leadership in developing standards, to be more communicative with various groups the industry deals with, to be more outspoken among industry colleagues and associates calling for participation in common efforts, to encourage and provide for continuing professional education, and to make AWWA a bigger, more effective instrument for industry action and progress. Among the predictions are: New York City and Seattle will announce sometime in the 1990s that they are going to filter their water, the influence of the environmental movement will continue to grow, the threat posed by drinking water contaminates will be seen from a more balanced perspective, but the movement toward more sophisticated water treatment will thrive, state drinking water programs will supplement their budgets through various forms of surtax on water rates.
