Fuzzy Logic for Automatic Finite Element Mesh Generation
Abstract: This paper presents the development of an automatic two‐dimensional finite element mesh generator where its core algorithm for selecting the optimum splitting line is based on fuzzy logic. With a series of fuzzy IF‐THEN rules, the mesh generator tends to form well‐shaped elements. Most of the elements are quadrilaterals, and for some cases, meshes of all quadrilateral elements are obtained when the fuzzy control is tuned to the basic criteria for creating quadrilaterals. It is observed that furzy control mimics human thinking and performs what one would do. The methodology is simple by its nature, and proved to be elective. In addition, a technique (non‐fuzzy approach) for finding visible nodes in a concave loop as an extension of Talhert and Parkinson's algorithm is also introduced in this paper.
