Complying With Risk Management and Process Safety Rules
This article discusses the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) risk management program (RMP) regulations and a related Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM) rule that requires comprehensive management systems for the handling of hazardous chemicals by industry and privately operated water and wastewater treatment plants. A table lists the USEPA RMP and federal OSHA PSM thresholds for several common chemicals used at water treatment plants. Erratum ‐‐ The threshold value given in Table 1 (page 18) for chlorine should have been 2,500 lb (1,134 kg) and not 1,500 lb (680 kg).
