UV‐Treated Effluent Used to Irrigate Spanish Crops
In one of the first applications of its kind in Europe, ultraviolet (UV) technology from Aquionics's sister company in the United Kingdom is being used to treat municipal effluent that is used for irrigating crops in the arid Murcia region of Spain. The system's supply of municipal effluent is gravity‐fed, so the disinfection system is very susceptible to pressure. Medium‐pressure UV technology was thus a deciding factor in the choice of a treatment system because a smaller number of UV lamps in each chamber offers less resistance to fluid flow and results in lower overall head loss.
