Inlets, Bypasses, Pretreatment, and Proprietary Devices
This chapter discusses the connections between the green infrastructure (GI) stormwater control measure (SCM) and the drainage area through which the runoff is generated. Inlets provide the flow pathway from the runoff source to the SCM. The inlet system or SCM must include some provision to allow high flows and excess stormwater volume to bypass the SCM so that flooding will not occur in the watershed. Pretreatment may be provided by the inlet or a separately installed treatment device. Proprietary devices are briefly discussed as part of the urban SCM toolbox. Because of the sizable demand for stormwater control measures, a large number of proprietary devises are available on the market from various vendors. A number of proprietary filters are available for installation in inlets and catch basins. These filters are constructed with some type of filter fabric or geotextile.
