A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Contractors often use the terms 'snags' and 'snagging' when talking or writing about correcting defects. Perhaps that is because a 'snag' sounds somehow less serious than a 'defect'. When a project is nearing completion, the clerks of works usually spends a lot of time producing snagging lists. These lists are intended to remind the contractor of defects which must be rectified. The production of these lists, and snagging in general, by the clerk of works or the architect, pose dangers. The first point to get clear is that it is the contractor's job to check that the Works are properly constructed. If the site agent was acting properly, no defects at all would be found when inspected because the site agent would have made sure that the Works were constructed strictly in accordance with the contract.
