This article discusses the types of centrifugal pumps used by water utilities, and notes the category of service in which pumps of each class perform best. This article especially concerns vertical units such as axial‐flow propeller, mixed‐flow propeller and impellervolute, end‐suction volute, deep‐well turbine, close‐coupled deep‐well turbine, and submersible motor‐driven turbine.
