New Desalination Pump and Energy Recovery Technologies
This article discusses a new component of the reverse osmosis (RO) technology, the water hydraulic axial piston pump (APP) technology that provides the benefits of high efficiency, low pulsation, and almost zero maintenance. The article explains how it operates, and how APP technology can be applied in reverse as axial piston motors (APM) or, in the case of seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO), an energy‐recovery motor. The article describes how this technology is used in an 1,800 gpd lightweight water purifier (LWP) system used by the U.S. Army.
