A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This chapter highlights a few of the important things about tendering to bear in mind. If the client is still determined to have a negotiated tender, the contractor must be chosen on the basis of its past record. Negotiated tenders often arise when there is a series of projects and a competitive tender has been accepted for the first project. If the architect is providing a full service, that will include putting together all the tendering information and sending it to tenderers. Clients who insist upon accepting a late tender must be made to understand that the other tenderers may well be able to claim the substantial costs of tendering from the employer. All tenderers go to a great deal of trouble and expense to prepare a tender, and the object of such a tendering approach is to decide which amongst a number of acceptable contractors is to do the work at the lowest price.
