Using the Toxic Substance Control Act for Source Water Protection
US environmental laws should work in concert to mitigate risk from harmful chemical substances and mixtures. This can be done by considering potential risks from drinking water under the Toxic Substances Control Act's (TSCA's) evaluations and regulatory determinations.
Drinking water associations are working with the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to ensure TSCA considers drinking water source protection in regulatory actions.
Water systems interested in using TSCA to better protect drinking water sources should engage directly with USEPA through public comment opportunities or through their professional associations.
