A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Desalination may still be in its infancy as a recognized part of the municipal drinking water treatment supply in North America, but its promise as a supplemental source of supply for regions where freshwater is scarce is beginning to be fulfilled. Projects such as those in Tampa Bay, Fla., and Carlsbad, Calif., are demonstrating the value of this technology for future sustainability. Although desalination is commonly thought of as a technology for the treatment of drinking water, its uses are expanding into other areas such as treatment of reverse osmosis concentrate and treatment of produced water and flowback from hydraulic fracturing.
