Uniaxial Reinforced Concrete Behaviour
The study of uniaxial tension gives an understanding of basic characteristics of plain and reinforced concrete behavior. Plain concrete under tension exposes a pronounced localization with a softening behaviour ending up in macro‐cracking. The chapter describes the mechanisms, the key parameters and quantitative approaches like the smeared crack model. Creeping in the long time horizon is another characteristic property of concrete and treated with an appropriate numerical modelling. Reinforced concrete behaviour depends on the interactions of concrete and rebars via bond. Bond is essential and is activated by concrete cracking. Regarding the reinforced tension bar the chapter illustrates typical properties of structural behaviour which are also characteristic for beams, plates and slabs.
