The choice and installation of framing materials and methods depend on a number of factors. In the case of wood framing, these include the species, size and grade of lumber. For steel framing, factors include the cross‐sectional shape of the framing member as well as the size, thickness and grade of steel. The moisture content of wood framing should be allowed to adjust as closely as possible to the level it will reach in service before gypsum drywall or plaster base application begins. Steel stud framing for non‐load‐bearing interior partitions is secured to floors and ceilings with runners fastened to the supporting structure. This chapter explains resilient channel framing, chase wall framing, and drywall and plaster ceiling suspension systems. It talks about framing for partition corners, and door and window openings. the chapter provides recommendations that apply to one‐piece and three‐piece door frames and are basic considerations for satisfactory performance.
