This chapter shows what can be done to make substantial reductions in global greenhouse gas emissions. It introduces the importance of the green belt in limiting urban sprawl and driving sustainable urban development within a boundary, not to mention the wider benefits of this ecological haven. The construction sector alone is already responsible for more than 23% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The benefits of woodland cover in particular are multiple, and afforestation and reforestation have become a global priority. Precision manufactured housing (PMH), modular housing, offsite manufactured housing, and modern methods of construction are the various umbrella terms for systems of housing construction in which individual components of a house are made in a factory. The new industrial revolution provided by PMH should be matched with a materials revolution building homes with bio‐manufactured housing based, renewable materials like wood, hemp, and bamboo.
