Studies on Titanium‐Based Dental Implant Material
A bio‐implant material, based on titanium alloy Ti‐6Al‐4V, was solution treated in the α+β and β phase fields. While there was minor difference in the strength parameters, there was marked variation in their ductility. The β treated material showed higher corrosion resistance in Ringer solution than the α+β treated one. Also the influence of cooling rate, following solution treatment in the α+β and p phase fields, was studied on the above properties. Screw type dental implants with square head were machined from the α+β solution treated and air cooled rods of the alloy Ti‐6Al‐4V. These implants were inserted in jaws of six patients and were monitored for 12 months, at different intervals. The performance of these implants was found to be highly satisfactory.
